The Emma Quartaro Woman of the Year Award

The Emma Quartaro Woman of the Year Award recognizes and honors an outstanding woman leader whose actions inspire and serve as a model for other women at the University, and who has made significant contributions to their success. The nominee should embody the characteristics of integrity and leadership, whether in the classroom, the office, or the Seton Hall community at large. She should demonstrate a commitment to women's issues, and encourage others to flourish and grow.

Part I:
In approximately 150 words, describe how the nominee has engaged in one or more of the following: 

  • demonstrated a commitment to women's issues
  • worked against oppression of and bias against women in its various forms
  • encouraged other women to get involved, to have a voice, and to take positions of leadership
  • worked to improve the conditions and/or the position of women, especially in the Seton Hall community
  • worked for the advancement of social justice for women
  • mentored other women on campus
  • been of specific service to women 
  • made a measurable difference in the lives of women on campus and beyond

Part II:
In approximately 150 words, describe one significant activity or event that demonstrates the candidate's advocacy on behalf of women and that illustrates her commitment to women and women's issues here at Seton Hall.

Process Details:

  • Nominations may be made only by faculty, staff, or administrators. 
  • All parts of the application must be completed for it to be considered by the committee.
  • Nominations that exceed 300 words for parts 1 and 2 combined will not be considered.
  • All nominations must have a second. 
  • Nominators or seconders may not nominate more than one candidate for the award in the same year.
  • Joint nominations may be made, but the pairing must be clearly justified. The WOTY Committee reserves the right to make the award to one of the nominees. This will be decided by a majority vote of the committee.
  • In order to maintain the integrity of the award, the WOTY Committee reserves the right not to bestow the award in a given year if it is determined that none of the nominees fully meet the criteria as outlined above.
