The Future of Racial Morality - A Lecture by Dr. Christopher Lebron

On Thursday, April 21,  from 5:00-6:15 p.m. in the Jubilee Hall Auditorium, the Philosophy Department will feature another speaker as part of its "Philosophers Speak" distinguished lecture series. This talk brings to campus Dr. Christopher Lebron to speak on "The Future of Racial Morality."

Dr. Lebron is Assistant Professor of Philosophy and African American Studies at Yale University. His book, The Color Of Our Shame: Race and Justice In Our Time, was published by Oxford University Press in August 2013 and was awarded First Book Prize by the American Political Science Association Foundations of Political Theory. He is currently at work on his second book, The Making of 'Black Lives Matter': A Brief History of an Idea, currently under contract with Oxford University Press; it is scheduled for publication in 2016. He has published various articles, including "The Agony of a Racial Democracy," "Equality From A Human Point Of View," and "Thoughts on Racial Democratic Education and Moral Virtue," that reflect his work in moral philosophy, political theory, race, and method. Additionally, Dr. Lebron has been active in public forums discussing race, social justice, and democratic ethics - most recently he has written for The Boston Review and The New York Times. Visit Christopher Lebron's Academia page for more information.

Please join us for this very provocative talk and a wine and cheese reception to follow.

This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Philosophy and the Africana Studies Program, with generous support from the College of Arts and Sciences and the President’s Advisory Committee.
