The Office of the Provost and the Center for Faculty Development are pleased to announce the inaugural delivery of the Experiential Learning Fellows Program.

The Experiential Learning Fellows program at Seton Hall University  will promote and sustain the delivery of impactful experiential learning programs. This two-semester workshop-style program will equip principal faculty members with the knowledge, skill, and strategy to produce experiential learning activities that align with the unique needs and goals of their respective school or college.

Faculty representing all academic areas are invited to apply for participation this workshop-style program. Sessions will focus on key topics and practical exercises driving development of individual experiential learning activities/projects. Sessions will also feature presentations from those in established experiential learning programs at the University to promote faculty and student access. Through this program, participants will advance as designated leaders in each of their respective units, prepared to propel development and elevate the quality and range of experiential learning activities available to undergraduate students at Seton Hall.

In the Fall 2023 semester, sessions will be held in person on Wednesdays (9/13, 9/27, 10/11, 10/25, 11/08, 11/29, 12/13) from 12:30-1:45 p.m. on the South Orange campus.

Topics will include:
• Introduction to Experiential Learning Theory
• Defining Transferrable Skills in Experiential Learning
• Prebriefing/Priming Students for Experiential Learning Activities
• The Experience: Design and Delivery
• Debriefing for Effective Reflection
• Evaluating Experiential Learning Outcomes
• Framing Your Plans- Project Proposal Development

The Spring 2024 semester will feature monthly progress meetings with the director of Experiential Learning and culminate in project presentations in a dedicated session at the 2024 Petersheim Academic Exposition.

Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the workshop, faculty members will:
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of experiential learning theory.
• Learn a variety of tools, techniques, and resources to design experiential learning activities.
• Design and pilot an experiential learning activity supporting the needs and goals of their respective academic unit.
• Implement methods for assessing student performance in experiential learning activities.

Participant Requirements
• Attend a minimum of 6 seminar training sessions in Fall 2023
• Attend regular 30-minute meetings with the Director of Experiential Learning monthly in the spring semester (Jan-April 2024).
• Present their program project at a dedicated session at the Petersheim Academic Exposition.
• Produce a media/news story to be showcased in collaboration with university public relations.
• Produce a final outcome report

Participants will receive a stipend of $750 as well as designation as an Experiential Learning Fellow of the University. The first half of the stipend will be paid in December 2023, and the remainder upon successful completion of the project. Projects must be completed by May 2024.

Eligibility
• Full-time faculty members holding a multi-year appointment that includes the 2023-24 academic year may apply.
• Faculty members must oversee an undergraduate course or other student program in Spring 2024 to allow for project implementation.

Adjunct faculty may also participate in the program if they meet the requirements above and:
• Have five years of instructional commitment to the university.
• Have the approval of their department chair or program director.

Depending on funding and the number of applications, priority will be given to full-time faculty (12) with intended representation across all schools and colleges.
