Changes to Microsoft Teams Recordings Location

Microsoft TeamsAny Teams meeting or call can be recorded to capture audio, video, and screen sharing activity. Teams meeting recordings will no longer be saved to Microsoft Stream. Moving forward, all meeting recordings will be saved to OneDrive and SharePoint. The recording happens in the cloud, and it is saved so you can share it securely via OneDrive and SharePoint. Any existing recording in Microsoft Stream will be unaffected.

Channel Meetings

For Channel meetings, such as classes, the recording is stored in the Teams site documentation library in a folder named Recordings. Permissions are inherited from the owners and members list in the channel. All students enrolled in the class will automatically have access to the recordings.

Non-Channel Meetings

For non-Channel meetings, the recording is stored in a folder named Recordings of the OneDrive that belongs to the person who started the meeting recording. All meeting invitees, except for external users, will automatically get a personally shared link. External users will need to be explicitly added to the shared list by the meeting organizer or the person who started the meeting recording.

How to record a meeting or call

Any Teams meeting or call can be recorded to capture audio, video, and screen sharing activity. The recording happens in the cloud, and it is saved so you can share it securely

  1. Start or join the meeting.
  2. To start recording, go to the meeting controls and select More options > Start recording.
  3. Everyone in the meeting is notified that recording has started.
  4. To stop recording, go to the meeting controls and select More options > Stop recording.
  • The recording is then processed and saved to the Recordings folder in the Teams site documentation library in SharePoint if it was a channel meeting or OneDrive if it was any other type of meeting.
  • The meeting recording shows up in the meeting chat—or in the channel conversation, if you’re meeting in a channel. These links are available for seven days. The videos will remain available until they are deleted by the user.
