First 56 Days

The First 56 Days is a campus-wide Fall programming initiative that encourages students to experience everything that Seton Hall University, South Orange and the greater NYC area has to offer.

About First 56 Days

All major offices on campus, including Athletics, Student Activities Board, Counseling and Psychological Services, Housing and Residence Life, The Career Center, Intramurals, The Dean of Students Office, coordinate various programs, events, workshops, games, and trips during this eight week time period.

We use the term “First 56 Days” in recognition of the year Seton Hall University was established (1856.)

Studies have shown that the first 6-8 weeks of freshmen year are the most crucial to academic success and a student’s desire to remain enrolled in the University.  Through these events, students are able to meet, mix, and mingle, become more engaged in the SHU community, and grow to be more successful in their college experience.

Students who have participated in these events know more about resources on campus and are more likely to stay at Seton Hall then those do not participate.

Students are encouraged to refer to the University Calendar often as there is something scheduled for every day and night for the duration of the First 56 Days.
