University Lecture: Tim Maudlin on "The Great Rift in Physics"

Tim Maudlin

Tim Maudlin

On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Science Auditorium (SC 101), the Philosophy Department and Physics Department will jointly host a university-wide lecture. This lecture brings to campus Tim Maudlin, professor of Philosophy at New York University.

In his talk entitled, "The Great Rift in Physics: Tension Between Relativity and Quantum Theory," Professor Maudlin will discuss the tension between these two central areas of Physics. This topic concerns whether these important theories can be merged together somehow, or seen to be a consequence of some more fundamental theory.

Professor Maudlin has a B.A. in Physics and Philosophy from Yale University and a Ph.D. in History and Philosophy of Science from University of Pittsburgh. He has written a number of works, including "Quantum Non-Locality and Relativity" (Blackwell), "Truth and Paradox" (Oxford), and "The Metaphysics Within Physics" (Oxford). He previously taught at Rutgers University and was a visiting professor at Harvard.
