What Great Minds Can Do: Augustine Glazov

Augustine Glazov

Philosophy major; Music Performance minor

Belle Mead, New Jersey

"Seton Hall's faculty truly care about you as a person. They want to develop you intellectually, but they also want to develop your character. They have supported me, providing me with opportunities and funding for conferences and performances. They were always challenging me and pushing me to go further and do my best."

Male student in grey shirtGus Glazov was able to explore his love of philosophy and music at Seton Hall University. He excelled in the study of philosophy, leading to his participation in two prestigious summer institutes on natural law at The Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, New Jersey.

Gus was also asked to attend several national conferences — with all expenses paid by Seton Hall. "The conference I attended in Texas drew people from all over the world to talk about Thomas More. I was able to present my research, and I got tremendous exposure. I was the only undergraduate student there; the other participants were all graduate students and faculty members."

Gus travelled around the country as part of the University's Ethics Bowl, competing against other schools and sharpening his oratory and critical reasoning skills. "We got to explore and debate profound questions and have highly intellectual conversations with other people; it really helped develop my moral character and my confidence."

A music minor, Gus was able to perform at Carnegie Hall and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. He made his operatic debut in New Hampshire and performed each year in one of the University's musicals; he even scored the lead in Oklahoma. "I am so fortunate I was able to pursue my two passions at Seton Hall. I came in as an undecided student, and I am leaving so focused and confident in my future."

Gus credits his success to the countless opportunities Seton Hall gave him and to the faculty who supported him every step of the way. "Seton Hall's faculty truly care about you as a person. They want to develop you intellectually, but they also want to develop your character. They have supported me, providing me with opportunities and funding for conferences and performances. They were always challenging me and pushing me to go further and do my best."

Gus has always had a desire to help others. The two internships he completed, one at the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, where he supported crime victims, and another, with the Worldwide Orphans Foundation, reflect his commitment to service. With that background, it's not surprising that after graduation Gus will join Teach for America to teach in Appalachia for two years.
