The Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center is holding student and faculty workshops throughout the Fall 2020 semester. Sessions will focus on attendance tracking, digital whiteboards, breakout rooms, and secure online testing. All workshops will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams and are open to all Seton Hall students and faculty.
Faculty sessions include tips and tricks on utilizing interactive videos to support student engagement, breakout rooms and channels, broadening asssesment options and cleaning up Blackboard courses for the spring semester.
Student sessions will introduce students to citation management with Zotero, a free tool used to collect, store, and manage online resources and sources in one location. Students will also learn about LinkedIn Learning, an on-demand video and training library consisting over over 13,000 topics ranging from pivot tables in Excel to guitar lessons. LinkedIn Learning is a great way to supplement and remediate materials covered in class. The RPNow workshops will provide strategies for online test taking and demonstrate how to access and submit an exam.

Interactive Videos to Support Student Engagement
Increase student engagement by incorporating quiz questions in the middle of your pre-recorded course material! During this session we will leverage the integration power of Office 365 by incorporate a Microsoft Forms Survey or Quiz directly within a Microsoft Stream Video! Options for distributing the Microsoft Stream Video will be discussed, as well as how to review the student responses to the Form Survey or Quiz questions.
Using a Digital Whiteboard in your Synchronous Course
In Hyflex or remote courses, writing on the in-class whiteboard is not ideal. Remote students will not be able to see or read the board. In this workshop, we will be demonstrating several ways you may use an interactive whiteboard to increase engagement and enhance collaboration with your students. We will demonstrate the Interactive Whiteboard in applications such as MS Teams, Blackboard Collaborate, Microsoft OneNote, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Attendance Tracking in Live Virtual Meetings
In some classes, attendance equals participation. In this session, you will learn how to track attendance in both Microsoft Teams and Blackboard Collaborate. We will walk through the steps of accessing attendance lists in both tools, as well as discuss best practices for tracking attendance and including it in the Blackboard Grade Center.
Secure Online Testing using RPNow for Faculty
Remote Proctor (RP) Now by Software Secure allows students to take exams from anywhere while being authenticated and proctored. This tool is perfect for high stakes exams. It allows students to verify their identity, show their surroundings, and complete an exam with a proctor all from the comfort from their home. During this session, we will examine how RPNow is used to facilitate secure testing and allow students to complete an exam in a more secure manor.
Back to Basics with Microsoft Teams
In this introductory workshop we will focus on the functionality of Teams to help you facilitate your class and engage students. Teams is a collaboration and presentation tool. Although Teams does not integrate with Blackboard, it can be used for synchronous meetings including those with external participants. A Team is provided for every class and is pre-populated with students from Banner.
Breakout Rooms and Channels in Microsoft Teams
Breakout Rooms allow faculty to assign students into private virtual groups to continue the discussion or have a private discussion amongst themselves. We will be discussing ways to incorporate breakout rooms into your teaching, potential use cases, as well as the mechanics behind using breakout rooms and private channels in Teams.
Cleaning up your Blackboard Courses for Spring
In this workshop, we will demonstrate methods of identifying and deleting unneeded materials from your Blackboard courses. We will discuss locating and deleting hidden pages, multiple copies of tests, and unused content items. This will allow you to declutter your course, and free up space for your new and exciting learning materials!
Managing your PowerPoint during HyFlex Teaching
In this workshop, we will be covering the process of sharing your screen in MS Teams from A – Z. From sharing a simple PowerPoint presentation, to using the extended screen option to allow for multiple screen viewing.
Provide Constructive Feedback to your Students
This session will cover strategies for providing feedback to students, including Blackboard annotations on assignments, rubrics, test response feedback, Blackboard Grade Center options, and via Microsoft Teams.
Broadening Assessment Options
This workshop offers essential questions, context considerations, and specific information to help faculty move beyond traditional assessment methods, such as exams, to alternative options.
Rubrics for Grading Efficiency
A rubric is a great tool to use for assessing student work as well as stating the expectations of student work. In this workshop we will review both qualitative and quantitative rubrics and demonstrate how to create and score rubrics for your assignments.
Building Tests using Respondus 4.0
Do you want to create engaging exams? Do you want flexibility and control over your exams? If you answered yes, then this workshop is for you. With Respondus 4.0 you can build your exam using MSWord, import publisher exams, and link exams to a Blackboard course.
The Grade Center
This session will focus on how faculty can best utilize the power of the Blackboard Grade Center. Topics will include rubrics, weighted columns, categories, grading schemas, filtering, grading discussions, and inline feedback on written assignments.
Creating Tests in Blackboard
In this workshop, we will walk through the steps of creating a test in Blackboard from start to finish, including a discussion of best practices for test integrity. We will look at several different question types and demonstrate how to pull in a random subset of questions from a question pool. Additionally, we will explore the various test options in Blackboard, including question randomization, test availability exceptions, feedback settings, time limits, due dates, and partial credit options. Finally, we will explore analysis tools to evaluate test performance.
Citation Management with Zotero
Zotero is a free tool that can be used to collect, store, and manage all your online resources and important local sources in one location. During this session, participants will install this free citation management software, install the browser add on, and generate a bibliography in multiple formats. We will also look at how your Zotero Library can be backed up to the cloud and how to utilize the Zotero integration with Microsoft.
LinkedIn Learning: A New Resource
LinkedIn Learning is an on-demand video repository of over 13,000 topics ranging from creating pivot tables in Excel to playing guitar. Learn ways to leverage this service to remediate and supplement your teaching. Emphasis is placed on identifying videos based on course topics, creating a learning path or collection, and linking the videos to your course.
Testing Using RPNow
RPNow is Seton Hall’s online proctoring software which is used for assessments. In this session we will provide strategies for online test taking, demonstrate the steps needed to access and submit your exam, and summarize where to go for help if you encounter issues while taking your exam.
