Facebook Stored Millions of Passwords in Plaintext - Change Yours Now

Facebook acknowledged a bug in its password management systems that caused hundreds of millions of user passwords for Facebook, Facebook Lite, and Instagram to be stored as plaintext in an internal platform.

To change your password:

  • Facebook desktop, go to Settings → Security and Login → Change Password
  • Facebook for iOS and Android, go to Settings & Privacy → Settings → Security and Login → Change Password
  • Facebook Lite for Android, go to Settings → Security and Login → Change Password
  • Instagram, go to Settings → Privacy and Security → Password to change your password

Seton Hall University is implementing two-factor authentication, a second layer of security, keeping your account secure even if your password is compromised. The university's implementation of Duo began in 2018 and will include all faculty and staff in 2019.
