Critical Update for Windows

Microsoft has released an urgent patch for Windows after the US National Security Agency (NSA) discovered a critical bug in the operating system. In this bug, antivirus software could identify malware as legitimate applications, or fake banking sites could use the vulnerability to trick a user’s PC into thinking it was legitimate.

The Department of Information Technology urges all students, faculty, and employees to update their Windows computers as soon as possible.

How to Update

  1. Select the Start Menu in lower left hand corner of screen and then type in "Check for updates"
  2. From the list of results "Check for updates". Within the "Windows Update" screen, select the "Check for updates" button, even if it says the computer is up to date.
  3. Available updates will be displayed and will begin to install.
  4. At completion of the update process you may be prompted to restart.
