PIPE Sponsors Irish Genealogy Presentation

Cliffs in IrelandPrepare yourself for Thanksgiving dinner discussions about family history by attending a presentation on Irish genealogy, sponsored by Pirates of Irish Persuasion & Extraction (PIPE)! Students, alumni, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the wider community are invited to attend.

On Friday, November 11, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., Alan Delozier, D. Litt., Humanities and Outreach Librarian & Adjunct Associate Professor of Catholic Studies, as well as an advisor to PIPE, will share an overview of and some practical tips for Irish genealogical research. Dr. Delozier, whose research specialties include Catholic, Irish, and New Jersey history, earned a Certificate in History of Family and Genealogical Methods with first class honors from the University of Limerick.

Discussing his plan for this lecture, Dr. Delozier remarked, "The value of studying family history is an activity that honors the past, present, and future alike. It is also an informative and often exciting exercise in discovery. Finding out information about your relatives can take on many forms, and this program will look at various ways we can share resource leads and personal stories from start to success." Dr. Delozier noted that in his presentation, he will touch on the importance of Irish history and the individuals who contributed to the story of this diaspora, along with the milestones, ceremonies, and circumstances that make this such an important area of study.

PIPE’s events earlier this semester included an Irish language workshop in September, presented by Irish language teacher Regina Femminella, as well as a Celtic harp performance by Odarka Polanskyj Stockert in October during Seton Hall Weekend.

RSVPs to the genealogy presentation are not required, but they are requested via the event page on the University calendar

PIPE is planning a full roster of activities for the spring semester. Any students interested in joining PIPE should signal their interest on the campus-wide Engage platform or email [email protected].
