Inspiration to Impact: Serving the Community

Students will participate in an off-campus community service initiative in partnership with DOVE and SOS programming.  After the service initiative, Team Leaders (other students) will debrief experience with student participants and discuss how this experience impacted their leadership skills/definitions.

The Student Leadership Challenge

The Student Leadership Challenge was developed by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner and is grounded in 30 years of research about leaders from students to executives in all types of organizations about exemplary leadership.  For the student leaders you nominate for this experience, they will receive the following:

  • An online Student Leadership Practices Inventory Assessment – this helps students determine actions that will improve their leadership skills.  Students will complete the assessment before the Conference.
  • Participation in the afternoon session of a special training led by facilitators from The Student Leadership Challenge.  This training will be high energy and very interactive as students learn the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership and how to put them into action:
  • Model the Way
  • Inspire a Shared Vision
  • Challenge the Process
  • Enable Others to Act
  • Encourage the Heart

This is a unique opportunity for your students – there is nothing else like it on campus! They will be networking with other student leaders, learning from each other and from our facilitators, in a truly wonderful capstone experience.

Conference Highlights

The theme is “Inspiration to Impact” – students will leave the day with the energy and tools to take their leadership to new heights.  After a dynamic keynote speaker, students will have choices of multiple options at three different break-out sessions.  Topics will be intentionally varied to appeal to everyone - from novice leaders to the experienced students about to take their skills to the work force.  This part of the Conference is open to all students and we hope that you will encourage all the students with whom you work to attend.  Registration will open as soon students return to campus.

Volunteers Needed!

Another great way to enhance your conference experience is to take some time to volunteer.
