Seton Hall University

Diploma Procedure

Seton Hall University offers three graduation dates each year in May, August, and December. Diplomas are typically available two months after the degree date. All students must submit an Online Application for Degree for the term in which they expect to complete their degree requirements. Diplomas are released upon determination of academic eligibility and financial clearance.

Diploma Name
A student's name appears on the diploma exactly as it appears in the University's database. Students must file a name change request in conjunction with the Online Application for Degree by the application deadline. Changes in first or last name must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar on a Change of Personal Data Form with accompanying documentation. The addition of a middle name, initial, or a suffix does not require supporting documentation.

Diploma Information
All Seton Hall University diplomas are printed in Latin. A generic English Translation is provided with the diploma. Diplomas reflect the name of the graduate, degree, Latin honors (if applicable), and the degree date. Majors, minors, and/or concentrations do not appear on the diploma; however, they are recorded on the transcript. Students will only receive one diploma for each degree.

Graduates who have an unresolved financial obligation to the University will not receive their diploma until that obligation has been fully resolved. Graduates who elected to pick up their diploma will be notified when it is available. At that time, the Office of the Registrar will inform the graduate of any unresolved financial obligation. Once resolved, it is recommended that graduates contact the Office of the Registrar at so that the diploma can be released.

Diplomas are sent via regular mail in an oversized, stiff cardboard envelope, which will not fit into a standard mailbox. Graduates can contact the Office of the Registrar at if there are any changes to the address or delivery method.
