Maria Barca currently works as the Lead Instruction Librarian for Seton Hall. She works on creating and assessing instruction programs provided by the library for students and faculty at the university. Currently reshaping the first-year English library instruction program to switch to both an in-person and virtual modality.

Maria Barca is also a former Adjunct Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work & Criminal Justice. She taught a variety of classes, including cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, and medical anthropology and sociology. Professor Barca's research interests intersect health and disease with gender, class, and sexuality, emphasizing how culture and society influence who gets sick, how and why they get sick, and if they get better.
