Dr. Hoffman has developed, implemented, and done extensive teaching, curriculum administration/management, and faculty development in many medical education areas and topics. She has had many roles in the medical school setting including in the Dean's Office, curriculum management, accreditation, educational quality improvement, course/clerkship leadership, and division leadership. She has taught extensively in all years of medical school curricula as well as at the GME level.
Dr. Hoffman has developed evidence-based medicine (EBM) and Information Mastery curricula and faculty development that have been implemented nationally. Under her leadership BUSM developed a four-year integrated EBM curriculum as well as the Finding Information Framework (FIF), a conceptual framework as well as App and web-based tool.
Dr. Hoffman has created and delivered numerous faculty development sessions focused on curriculum development and clinical teaching nationally. She is currently faculty in the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine's Medical Student Educator Development Institute.
Dr. Hoffman co-created the One Minute Learner – a tool that promotes and structures a conversation between student and teacher about goals and expectations, which makes clinical teaching more effective and efficient.
Dr. Hoffman is a family physician who has spent her clinical career working with patients from diverse backgrounds in underserved settings, including community health centers and safety net hospitals. Her clinical practice at BU included an outpatient practice at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and attending at Boston Medical Center on the Family Medicine inpatient service and Labor and Delivery. She is fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Hoffman completed her undergraduate education at the Johns Hopkins University, received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and completed her residency at the New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Family Medicine Residency.
