Reverend James P. Platania holds a Bachelor of Sacred Theology (S.T.B.) summa cum laude from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, and a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture (S.S.L.) magna cum laude from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome. His theses were "A Patristic Synthesis of Theology in the Light of the Ressourcement Theologians" and "The Wrath and the Patience of God: An Exegetical Investigation into YHWH's Anger, Moses' Intercession (Exod 32:7-14) and YHWH's Merciful Character (Exod 34:6-7)." He also earned a Master of Arts in Philosophical Studies (M.A.P.S.) summa cum laude from Mount St. Mary's University. His thesis, "Creation, Evolution and Cosmic Purpose," was received with distinction.
Prior to entering the seminary, Father Platania received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) summa cum laude from Boston University. He worked as an analyst at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York and completed internships at both Merrill Lynch in New York and Citigroup's Global Corporate and Investment Bank in London. He was raised in Vernon, NJ, and is an avid cyclist and tennis player.
Father Platania was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Paterson in 2013 and joined the faculty of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology in 2016. Serving on the Formation Faculty, he is an adviser to seminarians at Immaculate Conception Seminary. He is currently completing his doctorate in biblical theology in Rome, Italy, where he also serves as chaplain for St. John's University Rome Campus.
