In an effort to protect your identity and the University's data, the Department of Information Technology has implement password expiration rules and strong password requirements for students, faculty and employees.
- Student and faculty passwords will expire every 180 days.
- Employee passwords will expire every 90 days.
Passwords must meet "strong" password requirements, as defined in the existing policy.

When will my password expire?
- Faculty and student passwords will expire every 180 days after you have changed your password.
Example: if you changed your password on June 1, your password will expire on November 28.
- Employee passwords will expire every 90 days after you have changed your password.
Example, if you changed your password on June 1, your password will expire on August 30.
How will I know my password is about to expire?
Technology Service Desk will send you a reminder every day for 14 days
reminding you that your password is about to expire. You can also check
the "My Login Settings" module in PirateNet at anytime to determine
when your password will expire.

When I change my password what does it affect?
Most systems at Seton Hall utilize your PirateNet password to confirm your identity and allow you access to that resource.
These systems include:
- your laptop;
- using the Outlook program to read SHU mail and the WebDrive and
- Xythos software that allows you to connect to the Blackboard Content System.
devices (e.g. Blackberry) will also be affected if you are using them
to read SHU mail and you will need to change your password on these
devices as well.
Most of these systems or programs will prompt you for a new
password once you have changed your password. However, your Blackberry,
WebDrive and Xythos software will not prompt you to change your password and you will need to change the password for each manually.
When I change my password how does it affect my laptop?
laptop utilizes the same password as PirateNet when you log in to your
laptop. When you change your password your password will change on
your laptop too.
PLEASE NOTE: when
you are using your laptop off campus and you change your password using
the Self-Service Password Manager tool, your laptop will continue to use
your old password until you come back to campus and login again using
the campus network to access services. When you get back to campus
you'll need to use your new password on your laptop from that point on.
