Professor Named President of Premier Nursing Organization

Dr. Greenberg, who joined Seton Hall in 2019, has been dedicated to improving the geriatric healthcare workforce throughout her career.
Seton Hall Associate Professor Sherry A. Greenberg, Ph.D., R.N., GNP-BC, FGSA, FAANP, FAAN, was chosen as president of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA) in September 2020.
As president, Greenberg will serve a one-year term and work with the GAPNA Board of Directors and staff to guide all operations and strategic planning for the 2,700-member organization. She will also be the Board's liaison to GAPNA's Education Committee and House Calls Special Interest Group and collaborate with members and leaders of other organizations to improve care for older adults, their families and caregivers.
"I'm truly honored to serve as GAPNA's 40th president," said Greenberg. "I will work with the Board of Directors, leaders, volunteers, members, and staff to promote evidence-based education, practice, and research, and drive policy in the care of older adults."
In August 2019, Greenberg joined Seton Hall's College of Nursing as an associate professor, having previously worked at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. She is a certified gerontological nurse practitioner and has worked in acute, long-term and outpatient primary-care practices. Greenberg teaches at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral nursing levels at Seton Hall's College of Nursing. She is dedicated to mentoring aspiring nurses, advanced practice nurses, and nurse researchers, as well as improving the geriatric healthcare workforce trained to support the growing demand for comprehensive, person-centered age-friendly care to older adults.
"Dr. Greenberg is passionate about gerontological nursing care," said Dean Marie Foley, Ph.D., R.N., C.N.L. "She will lead this important organization with the same excellence she brings to her practice as an NP, nurse educator and researcher to further this organization and patient care."
Among her awards and recognitions, Greenberg was honored with the GAPNA Foundation's Research/Project Award in 2012, and she also received GAPNA's Outstanding Research Podium Presentation in 2013. She serves as a peer reviewer for multiple journals. In addition, Greenberg is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Gerontological Society of America, and the New York Academy of Medicine. She is also a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing through the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence.
Greenberg earned her baccalaureate, master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
