Dr. Mary Ellen Roberts
The College of Nursing is pleased to recognize two members of the administration and faculty for their recent achievements in service to the nursing profession.
Associate Dean and Associate Professor Marcia Gardner, PhD, RN, CPNP, CPN was appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Pediatric Nursing after being nominated by the executive committee of the Society of Pediatric Nurses. The Journal of Pediatric Nursing is the official journal of the Pediatric Endocrinology Nursing Society and the official journal of the Society of Pediatric Nurses. The mission of the Society of Pediatric Nurses is to advance the specialty of pediatric nursing through excellence in education, research and practice.
Dr. Gardner is the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs & Assessment. She is a certified pediatric nurse and certified pediatric nurse practitioner with a broad child nursing background related to the care of developmentally vulnerable infants and children, and infants and young children with special health care needs. She has been primary and co-investigator on several studies of family-related issues in developmental disabilities and autism, and has published and presented work on mothering, developmental vulnerabilities, nursing education, and research.
Assistant Professor Mary Ellen Roberts, DNP, RN, APN-C, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN was the recipient of the Towers Pinnacle Award. This award was initiated by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in 2013 and is given to a Nurse Practitioner who demonstrates ongoing national activities that elevate and highlight Nurse Practitioner contributions to health care. The Towers Pinnacle Award was created by the AANP Board of Directors in honor of Jan Towers, PhD, NP-C, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP, one of the founders of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a long-time health policy expert.
Dr. Roberts is certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Her professional interests are in the primary care of Adult Cardiovascular patients. She maintains a practice with the Urban Health Initiative Program serving vulnerable populations in the greater Newark, New Jersey area and is known for her expertise in cardiovascular care, specializing in women and heart disease, hypertension, lipids and acute coronary syndrome.
