Catherine Kiernan, Esq. has been chosen by NJBIZ for a Lifetime Achievement award in its 2018 General Counsel of the Year Awards. According to NJBIZ, "The 2018 NJBIZ General Counsel of the Year Awards program honors New Jersey's standout General Counsels and Chief Legal Officers for the critical role they play in making their companies successful."
Kiernan has served as general counsel to Seton Hall University since 1997. She joined the University in 1989 as university counsel, establishing the first office of in-house legal counsel. Ms. Kiernan graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law and is a member of the President's Executive Cabinet and an officer of the University corporation.
Interim President of Seton Hall, Dr. Mary J. Meehan said, "For nearly three decades Catherine Kiernan has shepherded Seton Hall through good times and bad, giving steadfast counsel that has allowed us to strategically grow into the world-class University that we have become. Her assistance has been invaluable and her commitment to her alma mater unwavering. As a fellow alumna, I take pride in her accomplishments and her recognition; as president of the University I am honored and consistently grateful to have her by my side."
In determining the honorees, according to NJBIZ "a panel of independent judges evaluated nominees using a point system to evaluate each's career success, organizational contributions, recent legal victories and professional and community service."
"I am honored to be recognized by this award for what has truly been a labor of love. When I first came here as a law student I knew that I had found a home, and in the years since that feeling has only grown. My work has allowed me to combine two of the great loves of my life— the law and Seton Hall— and for that I am grateful beyond words," said Kiernan.
The award will be given to Kiernan at a ceremony on May 18 at The Palace at Somerset Park. For more information, or to register for the event, visit NJBIZ General Counsel Awards.
