Streamlined Degree Auditing with New DegreeWorks Tool

Student on computerIn a move to enhance the academic experience of its students, Seton Hall University has announced the implementation of DegreeWorks, a comprehensive degree auditing and tracking system, to replace the current degree audit tool.

DegreeWorks is a web-based tool that provides students with a clear and concise view of their academic progress towards graduation. The system works by analyzing each student's academic history and current course schedule, allowing them to see exactly which degree requirements they have fulfilled and which ones they still need to complete.

The execution of DegreeWorks at Seton Hall University is expected to streamline the academic advising process, reduce administrative workload, and empower students to take control of their educational journey. With DegreeWorks, students can easily track their degree progress and explore different academic pathways, making informed decisions about their coursework and future career goals.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer DegreeWorks to our students," said Autumn Bucior, University Registrar. "We believe that this system will be a game-changer for our students, making it easier for them to track their academic progress and achieve their goals. We are committed to providing our students with the best possible educational experience, and DegreeWorks is just one example of how we are working towards that goal."

In addition to its degree auditing capabilities, DegreeWorks also provides a number of other useful features, including a GPA Calculator, the ability to view course schedules, prerequisites and seat availability for missing requirements, and the ability to simulate different degree scenarios including incorporating planned courses. This makes it a powerful tool for academic advisors as well, who can use it to help students plan their academic trajectory and address any potential roadblocks or issues.

The rollout of DegreeWorks has already begun in various academic advising departments, with students and advisors receiving training and support to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.  Some 72 advisors were granted early access to DegreeWorks to explore, test and provide feedback to ensure the tool is as robust and accurate as possible.

Among the early adopters of DegreeWorks was Professor Marianne Lloyd, Ph.D. from the Department of Psychology. “The change to DegreeWorks is a welcome one. It is much easier to understand the progress that a student is making, the GPA calculator lets me effectively work with students who are concerned about eligibility for scholarships or graduation, and the what if feature makes it easy for me to help students understand what various scenarios mean for their time at Seton Hall,” said Marianne Lloyd.

Additionally, 1,600 students were granted access to DegreeWorks in this first phase including peer advisors, Interprofessional Health Sciences, Psychology and  Business Administration majors.

“I have really enjoyed exploring DegreeWorks so far. Utilizing the new advising tool when I registered for my classes recently made the experience easygoing,” said Allison Gonzalez, Seton Hall Psychology student. “It is so organized and efficient in how it displays what requirements are completed or left to do. Moving forward, I would say that it is definitely going to help students and academic advisors through it’s useful features.”

More recently, DegreeWorks has been presented to various campus groups such as Faculty Senate, Council for Student Success, EOP, Center for Academic Success and the Student Government Association.

With its comprehensive degree auditing capabilities and user-friendly interface, DegreeWorks is poised to become an indispensable tool for students and academic advisors alike, helping to ensure that all students at Seton Hall University can achieve their academic and career goals. This new advising tool is part of a larger effort to modernize Seton Hall’s academic infrastructure and enhance the overall student experience. The University’s administration is committed to providing students with the resources and support they need to succeed academically and professionally.

All students and advisors can look forward to using DegreeWorks by Fall 2023 and will access the advising tool through the chicklet on their PirateNet dashboard. If you have questions, comments or feedback, please email [email protected].
