The seminary here at Seton Hall – Immaculate Conception Seminary – will be sponsoring a blood drive in the Student Center’s Main Lounge on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Blood is always in short supply in New Jersey. Please help this important cause and donate if you can. The need is urgent! We strongly recommend that you reserve a donation time in advance to minimize your wait and to help our blood collection center determine the number of donation stations to set up. To schedule your appointment or for more information, please stop by the blood drive sign-up table immediately after Mass on Sunday night, September 25 and October 2 at 6, 8, and 10 p.m., or sign up online by clicking here »
In addition, we would welcome volunteers to help us with recruiting blood donors and with hospitality and refreshments at the blood drive itself. Information about volunteer opportunities will also be available at our sign-up table after the evening Masses on September 25 and October 2, by emailing John Butler, or by attending a volunteers meeting on Monday, September 26 at 9:15 p.m. in the Pirates Cove. Freshmen, please note that credit for community service hours can be earned by providing volunteer service to the blood drive or by donating blood, and by completing the verification form for submission to the Freshman Studies Office.
A question frequently asked is “what are the requirements for being able to donate blood?” In short, you must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and have not donated blood on or after August 10, 2011. Deferral limitations may apply in the event of certain medications, illnesses, overseas travel, surgery, and other similar factors. Each prospective blood donor will be evaluated at the time of arrival at the blood drive location. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about your ability to donate by calling Community Blood Council at 866-2GIVENJ (866-244-8365).
The blood drive will be conducted by the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, Inc. For information about the Community Blood Council, please visit their website at www.GiveBloodNJ.org.
The Seminary Blood Drive Committee gratefully acknowledges the co-sponsorship and assistance of Campus Ministry, D.O.V.E., and Pirates of Irish Persuasion or Extraction (P.I.P.E.).
