Julia Hussey, a junior in the dual degree Occupational Therapy program, was recently named a recipient of the One Love Unsung Hero's Award.
Julia is a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority and the student coordinator for the KNOW MORE Peer Educators. The KNOW MORE Peer Educators work to provide important education around sexual violence prevention, alcohol & other drugs, and bystander intervention to the Seton Hall University community, through creative outreach programs and campaigns. Julia found One Love through her work in KNOW MORE and became a One Love Campus Ambassador during her sophomore year. One Love's mission spoke to Julia as she realized the prevalence of dating violence on college campuses. Specifically, Julia appreciates how One Love does this important education through encouraging students to look out and care for one another.
Julia has been instrumental in providing education regarding healthy relationships to the Seton Hall Community, specifically through partnering with One Love to provide the Escalation Workshop, during New Member Education for Fraternity & Sorority Life. The workshop aims to empower students to act and help a friend when they see certain warning signs of an unhealthy relationship. In addition, Julia has assisted with various trainings through One Love and continued programmatic efforts through KNOW MORE to raise awareness for dating violence, sexual assault, and the importance of bystander intervention. Julia's mission is to ensure student voices are at the forefront of the effort to create a safer and more supportive campus community.
