The Heart of the University Retreat Series gives faculty and administrators of all faiths the opportunity for input and guided reflection. The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.
The fourth retreat, given by Dr. Julie Burkey on the theme of Mercy and Trust: Can we trust in and accept God’s mercy? will be held on Tuesday, March 15, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Chancellor’s Suite, Student Center.
Pope Francis tells us that mercy is the “well spring of joy, serenity, and peace” on which our salvation depends. Yet, accepting mercy is often difficult for us. It is necessary to first have trust; it is the gateway that can open our hearts to God’s infinite mercy. We will explore the relationship between mercy and trust while summoning the courage to say, as did St. Faustina Kowalska, “Jesus, I trust in you.”
Julie V. Burkey, D.Min. is Adjunct Professor for Pastoral Theology at
Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology where she teaches
Theology of Work and Catholic Evangelization. Previously, Dr. Burkey
served the Seminary as Coordinator, Workplace Spirituality &
Evangelization for over ten years.
