The Center for Faculty Development will be sponsoring a wide array of programs to support faculty teaching, scholarship, and work life during the spring 2019 semester. All workshops are free of charge, although registration is recommended.
Some of the new workshops being offered this semester include "Alternative Student Assessment Strategies" and "How to Have a Successful Sabbatical." In addition, the CFD will offer its annual workshops on the tenure and promotion process and applying to be a Fulbright Scholar, as well as a new workshop in our "One Small Change" series, this one on creating the classroom as a learning community.
The CFD is also launching a new initiative: Contemplative Practices. It will include a reading group, a meditation group (in addition to our end-of-semester meditation workshops), and a special launch event on February 15. Daniel Barbezat, Ward H. Patton Professor of Economics, Amherst College, will give a talk--"What are People For? A Contemplative Inquiry!"—and workshop– "Reconnecting with What We Love!"—to help faculty learn how to integrate contemplative practices into their teaching and their lives.

- Write Club
This year, we will be recognizing those who attend any three CFD workshops or a writing retreat during the year (8/15/18 - 6/30/19) with a certificate and a letter to the faculty member's dean and department chair attesting to their involvement. Those who receive a certificate will also be entered into a lottery for a prize. To be eligible, be sure to sign in at each CFD-sponsored event you attend.
