Seton Hall to Host Conference with 30 Scholars of Women and Gender

Seton Hall University's Women and Gender Studies Program will host this year's Women and Gender Studies Conference on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 10:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend the all-day conference featuring the work of over 30 scholars of women and gender. "The Conference on Women and Gender is intended to show off the great work our faculty are doing in the area of women and gender," said Vanessa May, conference organizer and associate professor of history. "The Conference brings critical analysis to questions of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This annual event is one of the most broad-ranging and important academic events of the year."

The keynote address will be given by Dr. Robyn Spencer, Associate Professor of History at Lehman College. She is the author of The Revolution has Come: Black Power, Gender and the Black Panther Party (Duke University Press, 2016). She is a historian who specializes in the history of social protest after World War II, urban and working-class radicalism, and gender, as well as the history of the Black freedom movement in the United States. Her keynote address is titled "Keeping House: Patricia Murphy Robinson and the Archives of Black Women's Radicalism."

Registration is online and the day will begin at 10:15 a.m. with conference sessions in Stafford Hall, in which scholars, students and professionals from Seton Hall and beyond will discuss numerous themes, including: women writers, gender justice around the globe, bell hooks, and motherhood.

The conference is open to all members of the Seton Hall community and to the public at no charge. Members of the public should check in at the guard's booth for parking information. The conference organizers encourage preregistration.
