Mentoring

Insight into Insight: Mentoring Available

Lonergan’s foundational claim is that the process of human knowing is knowable to those who put in the time and make the effort to experience, understand and verify their own cognitional activities. Once they do this, they have a basis on which to understand not only his philosophical works but also information in any field of knowledge. As he said in the introduction to Insight, “Thoroughly understand what it is to understand, and not only will you understand the broad lines of all there is to be understood, but you will also possess a fixed base, an invariant pattern, opening upon all further developments in understanding.”

Reaching the insight into insight, and going beyond that to what Lonergan calls rational self-appropriation, can be an arduous journey. Most of us who have reached the goal have done so with the help of one or more people who have made the journey before us.

If you feel a need for assistance with the task of self-appropriation, there is a small group of older Lonergan scholars who are willing to develop a short-term mentoring relationship with individuals such as yourself.
