New Stillman Partnership With the Renowned Catholic University of Lyon

Seton Hall University's new international partner, the Catholic University of Lyon in France, has been recognized in the Financial Times ranking of 100 Best Master’s in Management in the World for 2022. This past April, Seton Hall and the Catholic University of Lyon formed a partnership with the intention of encouraging greater international collaboration in business education between the two institutions.

Founded in 1875, the Catholic University of Lyon is primarily located in Lyon, with two campuses housing its six departments, which offer extensive undergraduate and graduate courses and programs in both French and English. The University's ESDES School of Business and Management, whose Grand Ecole Program was recognized by the Financial Times, has 100 links with other universities and business schools in 36 countries. The ESDES Business School, which received EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) accreditation in 2020, offers bachelor's and master’s programs with concentrations including marketing and digital business and international business management.

Seton Hall's Office of the Provost, the Stillman School of Business, and the Office of International Programs hosted Dr. Kevin Pon, the Associate Dean for International Development and Accreditations, and Dean Olivier Maillard, Dean of ESDES Business School, as representatives of the Catholic University of Lyon. The meeting took place in the Center for Securities Trading and Business Analytics in Jubilee Hall. Possible initiatives discussed between the two universities included student, faculty, and staff exchanges, joint degree programs, and international internship opportunities.

Dean Maillard appreciated how the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two Catholic universities solidifies a foundation for developing international projects, including joint degree programs and greater teaching and learning initiatives. He explained that ESDES benefits from the University of Lyon's structure as an international university; its exchanges between its faculties and professional schools provide new backgrounds for students that complement the managerial aspect of their education and allow them to develop their cross-disciplinary skills. The new commitment between Seton Hall and ESDES contributes, Dean Maillard adds, "to the emergence of a responsible economy driven by its employees, partners, alumni, and students."

Dean of the Stillman School of Business, Joyce Strawser, Ph.D., remarked how the new relationship with ESDES will bring more opportunities for students to broaden their global perspectives. "From our initial collaboration on an international strategy group project, with students from Stillman and ESDES working together virtually, we quickly observed the significant benefits of exposing students to the perspectives and views of peers at another institution." Dean Strawser emphasized how both institutions look forward to exploring this new foundation to create richer academic opportunities strengthening global communication.
