Faculty Led Programs
The perfect way to globalize your education with fellow Pirates!
Faculty Led Programs are academic courses involving traditional class-based and experiential learning in international settings. These programs provide students and faculty first-hand opportunities to immerse themselves on the ground in a global classroom. A Seton Hall Faculty Leader will partner up with local resources to lead programs in small groups, allowing for maximum interaction and a meaningful travel experience. Numerous departments offer Faculty Led Programs for a duration of days, weeks, or up to a month.

- Seton Hall Courses: These are Seton Hall courses taught by dedicated Seton Hall faculty who have a passion and expertise in the destination you are about to explore! Some Faculty Led Programs also involve courses taught at a local partner institution abroad.
- Valuable Cross-listings: Many of our Faculty Led Programs are cross-listed to meet multiple types of degree requirements including key CORE 3000-level offerings. Regardless of major, you can keep on track for graduation!

- Seton Hall Students: Being part of a Faculty Led Program means you'll get to know your fellow travelers as Seton Hall students. Encourage your Pirate friends to join you on your adventure regardless of major!
- Spring Embedded Undergraduate Tuition: Undergraduate students studying abroad with a spring semester embedded program (spring break or May travel) pay their typical semester tuition with no additional SHU tuition cost as long their Spring semester course load is 18 credits or less.
- Summer Tuition Discounts: Students studying abroad with a summer Faculty Led Program receive a 25% on Seton Hall tuition. If the program is a month long, you'll receive a 50% discount on Seton Hall tuition.

- Research Program Options and Details: The best action begins with reflection. Understand the factors involved in choosing a program and break down your goals and needs.
- Attend Study Abroad Info Session: This is a good time to attend an info session to ask a few questions and learn about your study abroad options. There are even info sessions for you and your family to attend together!
- Meet with your Advisor: You must consult with your Advisers about your study abroad program ideas and how study abroad may impact your degree progress.
- Research and Apply for Study Abroad Scholarships: Many scholarships have very early deadlines so apply asap, even if you don't know your program yet (you can usually switch later). Click here to learn more about scholarship opportunities.
- Accessibility Abroad: Students seeking accommodations on a study abroad program, are encouraged to begin the process with the DSS office at least 6 months in advance of the program start date. Click here to learn more about that process.
Priority Application Deadlines: November 1 (Spring Embedded) and February 15 (Summer Session)
Applications may be accepted after the Priority Application Deadline at the discretion of the Faculty Leader up until the Confirmation Deadline. The following is what's included in your online Faculty Led study abroad application.
Important: The online application may not save your answers and allow you to return to them later. To be prepared, please check the Faculty Led Program page for the specific faculty questions related to that program and whether the faculty requires you to to attend an in-person or virtual interview prior to approval.
- Program Discovery: We want to know how you found out about your intended study abroad program
- Eligibility Criteria: Minimum GPA of 2.5 required; Students cannot be on disciplinary probation level II or higher at the time of departure
- Student Information: Basic information including your SHU ID number, citizenship, and whether you have a currently have a valid passport
- Academic Information: Your current year, expected graduation year, GPA, school and major
- Faculty Questions: These are questions that have been designated by the Faculty Leader for this unique program.
- Acknowledgement of DSS and Study Abroad: An understanding of how accommodation services are provided for study abroad programs with the Office of Disability Support Services.
Confirmation Deadlines: December 15 (Spring Embedded) and March 15 (Summer Session)
For Accepted Students: Your spot on a Faculty Led Program is not guaranteed until your application is confirmed by competing all of the following requirements below. All documents must be electronically submitted to OIP and the $500 non-refundable program deposit (that goes towards to cost of the program fee) must be paid via TouchNet in order for a student to be confirmed for a Faculty Led Program. Accepted students will be emailed the links to the following requirements along with instructions.
- $500 non-refundable Program Deposit (paid thru TouchNet)
- Acknowledgment of Refund, Participation and Withdrawal Policy
- Acknowledgement of Program Involvement
- Assumption of Risk, Waiver of Liability, Release of Claims and Indemnification
- Authorization for Access to Student Information
- Consent for the Processing of Personal Data
- Health Disclosure Form
- Emergency Contact Form
- Passport Information Form
- Course Registration: For those officially confirmed students, if you have not registered for your Faculty Led study abroad course already, please reach out to the Faculty Leader in order to do so.
- Online Student Pre-Departure Orientation: 30 days prior to departure, officially confirmed students will be invited to complete an Online Pre-Departure Orientation.
- Student Pre-Departure Form: 30 days prior to your international departure, officially confirmed students must submit the following information. The link for submitting the Pre-Departure Form will be sent once the confirmation period has closed.
- Flight Itinerary (if applicable)
- Phone Number Abroad
- Passport Information
- Family Pre-Departure Orientation (optional)
- Study Abroad Visa (if applicable)
Balance Due Dates
The following are the deadlines when the full program fee balances are due for all Faculty Led Programs depending on the course term. The Payment Link for submitting the full balance will be sent to officially confirmed students once the confirmation period has closed. Students who do not pay the full program fee by the these deadlines will risk being dropped from the corresponding study abroad course(s).

Summer Session: April 15
