Health Services Tip List

In an effort to help our students become informed healthcare consumers here are some tips that will help us help them get the care they need:

  • Students should keep a photo of the front and back of their insurance card
  • A photo of current medications, dosages and ordering physician is helpful for the student to keep
  • To avoid wait time, students can make an appointment online through the student health portal or by phone (973) 761-9175. Walk-ins will be accommodated
  • In order for us to better assess your child, try to familiarize them with their health history including chronic conditions, allergies and reactions, past surgeries, broken bones or any past medical incidents
  • Dorm room first aid - Hand sanitizers, preferred pain reliever (e.g., acetaminophen, ibuprofen), Saline nasal spray, cough drops, Band-Aids, antibiotic ointment, tissues, soup, saltine crackers, ginger ale, antacid, antidiarrheal, anti-nausea,  ice pack, humidifier
  • It is helpful to have your child come to school with a thermometer that they are familiar with using
  • In an effort to prevent antibiotic resistance and provide the best long and short-term care, Health Services, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control, takes a conservative care position in prescribing antibiotics to students.
  • Missed Classes- Health Services provides a “confirmation” of visit to students who have an appointment for routine illnesses. Should your child have a more serious illness or hospitalization, let us know and the appropriate administrators will be notified.
