Inclusion Alliance Application

Seton Hall University is committed to fostering a community of racial understanding, inclusion and dignity for all of our members.

To further our commitment, Student Services is continuing the incredibly successful peer-to-peer leadership program that was piloted in Fall 2018. Selected students will receive training to facilitate a dialogue on the important social issues of cultural identity, privilege, and inclusion among first-year students in the ULife classrooms.

The goal of this initiative is to empower our current students to educate new students to develop an awareness and skill set for engaging in productive cross-cultural dialogue, education, and celebration. Student leaders will be trained to create a classroom atmosphere of self-reflection designed to challenge long-held stereotypes and to invite inclusion. By participating in the training and year-long programming, student leaders will also benefit from personal, professional, and leadership development.

A Peer-to-Peer Leadership Experience

We are seeking motivated rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are in good academic standing. The students will be required to attend a weekend retreat in September. The exact date of the retreat is TBD but we will announce the date as soon as more information is available.

During that weekend retreat, the student leaders will participate in diversity training themselves and will be trained as facilitators for the ULife classes held during the Fall semester. Students who are selected for this opportunity will receive monetary compensation.

This initiative is an important step in nurturing a community that embraces diversity and open dialogue on issues of social justice. Participation in this program will afford the student leaders opportunities for involvement in future programming that will be designed to encourage students to continue the exploration that began with the student-on-student, peer-to-peer classroom dialogue.
