Center for Academic Industry Partnership

Seton Hall University is seeking donors and partners to support a Center for Academic Industry Partnership in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  Funded by a $500,000 seed grant from Sanofi-aventis, the Center for Academic Industry Partnership is an institutional initiative to promote our programs specific to ensuring quality laboratory science practice in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. 

The Center will enhance current efforts in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and industrial scientists through unique programmatic initiatives to be housed in our new Science and Technology Center, a state-of-the-art research and training facility.  Laboratories will provide the latest in chemical analysis, scientific instrumentation and computing technology.  The Center will bring many successful activities that have been performed by individual faculty on an ad-hoc basis together under a single, coordinated roof, so that they may be nurtured and expanded. 

The Center for Academic Industry Partnership's initial work will be three-fold:

1. Infusing pharmaceutical and industrial laboratory standard practice into Undergraduate Science Laboratory curriculum.
2. Creating an exchange program for Chemistry Ph.D. candidates ensuring comprehensive training in both academic laboratory and industrial laboratory environments through fellowships and internships.
3. Providing short courses in laboratory techniques and practices for working pharmaceutical scientists.

Center for Computational Research

The Center for Computational Research's mission is to complement existing and future basic and applied research being conducted at Seton Hall University through the use of computer based modeling and simulation tools provided by the Center, thereby enhancing the research capabilities and competitiveness of the University, Research collaborations exist with faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and the Department of Physics.

Center for Functional Materials

Established in 2012, the Center for Functional Materials' core mission is to advance the University's research and educational profile by fostering the integration of education and research within the modern scientific topic of materials.  Affiliated faculty provide advanced student training in a collaborative learning environment supported by external funding.  The Center is integrated with other centers within the Department and University and promotes collaborations and grant seeking with faculty in other departments as well as with Federal laboratories.
