Student Scholarships

Students pursuing a major or minor in Catholic Studies may apply for several scholarships offered at Seton Hall University. These and other scholarships are listed below.

You can also search the Office of Financial Aid's database of scholarships, which is available exclusively to Seton Hall students. Once you have searched the Seton Hall database, whether you have found something or not, please e-mail Jean McArthur to set up an appointment with a scholarship adviser. They will be happy to answer all of your questions about the scholarships and fellowships and help you navigate the application process.

Department of Catholic of Studies Scholarships

Competitive scholarships are offered to students pursuing a degree in Catholic Studies every year. These academic scholarships recognize and honor our most committed students.

Catholic Studies Majors Scholarships
An annual scholarship up to $2,000 is awarded to an undergraduate in their sophomore or junior year who is majoring in Catholic Studies and has a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Catholic Studies Minors Scholarships
An annual scholarship up to $1000 is awarded to a sophomore or junior undergraduate who is majoring in Diplomacy, Business or Science and minoring in Catholic Studies and has a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Reverend Walter Debold Scholarship for Study Abroad Programs, The
This scholarship is awarded to a Catholic Studies student who is taking a study abroad course. Contact Dr. Inez Murzaku at [email protected] to learn more.

The Reverend Richard M. Nardone ('50) Endowed Scholarship
Provides awards of varying amounts to full time undergraduates who pursue a major or minor in Catholic Studies and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Seton Hall Scholarships and Financial Aid

Cornelius Heeney Memorial Scholarship
Scholarships for undergraduates who graduated from New York City high schools (preference given to Brooklyn residents) who can demonstrate financial and academic success.

Edward Loyas Scholarship
For incoming or current undergraduate students at Seton Hall. Applicants are required to file a FAFSA form and must have an appreciation of Polish culture, tradition, history and community life. Those selected for the award, which ranges from $500-$7,500, are required to actively participate in Seton Hall's Slavic Club.

George F. Brickman and Louise F. Brickman Scholarship Fund
Awards funding to continuing undergraduate students who demonstrate satisfactory academic progress and financial need, as determined by the FAFSA.

G.I. Bill Yellow Ribbon Program
Eligible veterans and active duty military personnel will receive a considerable contribution toward their tuition from the Veterans Administration and Seton Hall University.

Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students Scholarships
A variety of scholarships are available to incoming freshmen and incoming transfers. In order to apply for any of these scholarships, you must apply to Seton Hall University. However, you may apply for the scholarship prior to notification of admission.

Henry J. King ('51) Scholarship
This scholarship provides funding to full-time students in good standing with a minimum of a 3.2 GPA who demonstrate financial need.

Lawrence E. Bathgate II 'Little Short' Scholarship Fund
Awards scholarships up to $6,000 to undergraduate junior or senior students in good academic standing who demonstrate financial need.

Margaret Ohmsieder Memorial Fund
Provides awards up to $5,000 to undergraduate students who have a proven record of academic ability and can demonstrable financial need.

Maria Jeritza Seery Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Scholarships up to $2,500 are available to undergraduates who demonstrate financial need and academic merit with satisfactory academic progress.

Mihalovic Family Memorial Scholarship
Provides awards up to $1,000 to full-time undergraduate students who can demonstrate financial need, have a FAFSA form on file and a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

Monsignor Robert Sheeran Servant Leadership Scholarship
Awards scholarships up to $10,000 to junior or senior undergraduates in good academic standing.

Nicholas R. Scalera ('63) Scholarship
Offers scholarships ranging from $500- $5,000 to undergraduate students who are residents of Essex County, NJ and who demonstrate substantial financial and social need, consistent with the requirements associated with qualifying for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Scholarship
Provides scholarships of varying amounts to undergraduates who are in good academic standing and are members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Bayonne, NJ.

Richard Powell Scholarship
Undergraduate students who demonstrate satisfactory academic progress may apply for an award up to $1,000.

Sarah, Earl, and Donald Ryan Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to undergraduates enrolled full time at Seton Hall University's South Orange, NJ Campus who demonstrate a high degree of financial need and a high degree of scholastic achievement and effort.

Seton Hall University Discounts
Seton Hall University offers a 50% discount to graduate students who are members of the clergy and to full-time lay professional educators employed in Roman Catholic dioceses in New Jersey, including teachers, principals and central office administrators.

Seton Hall University Servant Leader Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all students who display a competitive academic record and a record of exemplary service and leadership. Awards vary but average $2,400. Scholarship application and application for admission must be received by January 15.

Teresa Varni Scholarship
Students who demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA, may apply for this scholarship.

External Scholarships

Catholic United Financial Scholarship
Catholic United Financial awards scholarships of $500 to members of their organization.

Catholic Financial Life College Scholarships
Financial members of Catholic Financial Life who are full-time students attending an accredited four-year private or public college or university are eligible to apply for $1,000 scholarships.

Catholic Order of Foresters Fraternal Scholarship Program
This program offers up to 20 college scholarships for $5,000 as financial assistance to graduating high school seniors who have been individually insured by the Catholic Order of Foresters for at least two years prior to applying. As a merit-based scholarship program, selection will be based solely on high school class rank, ACT or SAT scores, and cumulative high school grade point averages.

Father Krewitt Scholarship
The Father Krewitt Scholarship, sponsored by the Catholic Kolping Society of America, is granted for $1,000 to members or children of members of the Roman Catholic faith who are furthering their education or training at any accredited institution in the United States.

John W. McDevitt (Fourth Degree) Scholarships
The Knights of Columbus awards John W. McDevitt (Fourth Degree) Scholarships academic-based scholarships of $1,500 annually to U.S. students entering freshman year of undergraduate study at a Catholic college or Catholic university in the United States.

Knights of Columbus Endowed Scholarships
The Knights of Columbus offers a limited number of endowed scholarships provided from earnings of funds established in the donors' names. In accepting these gifts, the Order's Board of Directors voted to administer endowed scholarships in conformance with the rules of the Fourth Degree Pro Deo and Pro Patria Scholarship program, subject to the donors' wishes.

Life Lessons Scholarship Program
Open to all students between the ages of 17 and 24 who have experienced the death of a parent or legal guardian, and who are a legal resident of the United States (including Puerto Rico). The following awards are available: grand prize of $10,000 to the best video or essay; seven (7) awards of $5,000 to the first runners-up; six (6) awards of $2,500 to the second runners-up; 45 awards of $1,000 to the third runners-up.

Leopold Schepp Foundation
The Foundation grants awards to both full-time undergraduate students enrolled in four year bachelor programs and to full-time graduate students. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Additionally, graduates must be under 40 years of age at the time of application.

Polish Roman Catholic Union of America (PRCUA) Education Fund
The PRCUA awards several scholarships every year. These scholarships are renewable through the yearly application process.

Roothbert Fund Scholarships
Provides scholarships to undergraduate or graduate students who are "motivated by spiritual values" and work to foster fellowship among them. Preference will be given to those who can satisfy high scholastic requirements and are considering careers in education.
