God, Sex, and the Radical Demands of Love

Headshot image of Damon OwensThe Department of Catholic Studies, St. Paul's Outreach, and Campus Ministry are pleased to present a lecture by nationally renowned speaker Damon Owens. The talk, "God, Sex, and the Radical Demands of Love," will take place on February 3, 2022, at 8:30 p.m. in the Jubilee Hall - Atrium.

Owens' talk will address some of the most pressing questions we all face: Who are you? Why are you here? How do you live your life in true happiness and joy? The most urgent questions of our existence have universal and particular answers. Made for love, every human person has stamped in his or her body a sign of this love. In the mystery of love, there is a necessary tension between intimacy that pulls in and awe that pushes away. Drawing from Tradition, applying the language of Theology of the Body, and appealing to our own lived experience, a beautiful love story weaves our origin, history, and destiny, revealing the mystery of life, love, and true joy. This talk will help you find your own story in this universal story.

Owens is the executive director of the Theology of the Body Institute and is featured in Ascension Press' updated marriage preparation program Joy-Filled Marriage. He is a gifted and sought-after speaker for national conferences, marriage seminars, seminaries, and youth groups on the good news of sexuality, chastity, Theology of the Body, Theology of the Family, and Natural Family Planning (NFP).

Owens has been teaching and promoting NFP since 1993. He has served as NFP Program Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Newark, and he and his wife, Melanie, were founders of the New Jersey Natural Family Planning Association. He has published numerous articles and is a recurring guest on EWTN and Catholic Radio. He has appeared on ABC World News Tonight, CBS News 48 Hours, BET Evening News, and National Public Radio. He is also an accomplished gospel singer, having been selected to sing a solo during the 1995 Papal Mass at Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
