Catholic Studies Students Celebrate St. Patrick's Feast Day at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome

Picture of students and priest in front of a muralSeton Hall University students taking Catholic Studies study abroad course: "Italy in the Footsteps of the Saints" had a private Mass in the Irish Chapel of St. Columbanus in the Vatican Grottoes on March 17, 2019, the feast day of St. Patrick patron saint of Ireland. Not a better way to celebrate St. Patrick's feast!

The mosaic underneath the arch of the apse of the Irish Chapel of St. Columbanus where Mass was celebrated represents St. Columbanus with a pastoral staff and the book of the Regula, between four monks, in their symbolic walk from Ireland to Italy. The inscription "Peregrinantes Pro Christo" (Pilgrims for Christ) on the chapel illustrates the apostolic goal of the peregrination of the Irish monks.

Early morning Mass was celebrated by Seton Hall University priest and Catholic Studies Program faculty, Fr. Joseph R. Laracy. Fr. Laracy preached on the Gospel of the Transfiguration and what it reveals about the person of Christ. Students Emma Murphy sang and Jose Morocco and Danielle Federico proclaimed the first and second readings, respectively.
