Beta Gamma Sigma

Beta Gamma Sigma is the national scholastic honor society for graduate and undergraduate students in business and management.

Beta Gamma Sigma was founded in 1907 to encourage scholarship and accomplishments in the field of business studies and to foster principles of honesty and integrity in business. Election to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest scholastic honor that a student in a school of business can achieve. Eligibility for membership in Beta Gamma Sigma places one in a very select group. Membership is restricted to students of high scholarship in business schools accredited by the AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Less than one-fourth of business schools in the United States have met the standards for AACSB accreditation. Only the top 7% of the class of collegiate juniors are extended an invitation to join in the Spring, along with the top 20% of all graduate students. In the Fall, 10% of seniors are so invited. By virtue of its strong chapter, the Stillman School Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter has been designated as an "exemplary" chapter by the national organization. As such, it has become eligible for a $1,000 scholarship award. BGS members proudly wear their gold honor cords at commencement exercises.

On campus, Beta Gamma Sigma members are involved in two major initiatives. These are the Freshman Essay Contest and the Academic Grievance Process. In the Freshman Essay Contest, BGS members select readings or movies about which the incoming freshmen prepare essays. The BGS students also serve on the review panel for these essays, and select the winning entries. In the Academic Grievance Process, BGS students serve on the panel of reviewers of academic grievances, which consists of three faculty members and three students. These initiatives help support the Stillman School as it strives to advance academic life in all of its many domains.
