National Endowment for the Humanities Sponsors Lecture on the Role of the Humanities in Business  

On Monday, October 21st, 2019 from 5-6:15 p.m. in Bethany Hall A, the internationally renowned Dr. Joanne Ciulla will deliver a talk on "The Two Cultures: The Place of the Humanities in Business Education."

Dr. Ciulla earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin and is currently a Professor in the Rutgers University Department of Management and Global Business and the Director of the Rutgers Institute for Ethical Leadership. Dr. Ciulla has also held academic appointments at Harvard Business School, The Wharton School, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, LaSalle University, and numerous visiting appointments outside of the U.S., including the UNESCO chair in Leadership Studies at the United Nations International Leadership Academy in Jordan. Some of Dr. Ciulla's very influential publications include Honest Work: A Business Ethics Reader (Oxford), Leadership and the Humanities (Praeger), The Quest for Moral Leaders: Essays on Leadership Ethics (Edward Elgar), and The Working Life: The Promise and Betrayal of Modern Work (Times Business Books.)

This lecture was made possible by a prestigious and highly competitive National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Connections planning grant, awarded to Dr. Abe Zakhem (Philosophy) and Dr. Elizabeth McCrea (Department of Management). The NEH grant is supporting the "Business Humanities Initiative" at Seton Hall University. This initiative seeks to integrate the humanities and business in order to develop innovative courses and curriculum and better illuminate, inform, and help to passionately try to resolve persistent and emerging ethical issues in business and society.
