Former DYFS Director Visits Social Work Class  

Nicolas Scalera sitting in a chair in front of a board. Nicolas Scalera will be a guest lecturer in the BSW Social Work Program's Child Welfare Policy and Practice Class on Tuesday, September 26. He will share information and opinions about the New Jersey state child welfare system, specifically, the Child Protection Services in New Jersey.

Mr. Scalera holds a BA in Social Science from Seton Hall University and a MS in Journalism from Columbia University. He served 17 years as Assistant Director and nearly five years as Director of DYFS, the Division of Youth and Family Services, and continues to mentor many youths. Since 1995, Mr. Scalera has overseen his own management consulting firm specializing in services to at-risk youth. In 2006, he received Seton Hall University's Humanitarian of the Year Award for his lifelong service to troubled children and families. Mr. Scalera is a member of the President's Advisory Council for the College of Arts and Sciences and continues to remain an active alumnus of Seton Hall.
