While at Seton Hall Deanna Iovine '16 doubled majored in biology and secondary education. She also earned a certificate in informational technologies.
Deanna's dream had always been to teach at a private school in Manhattan. After completing her New York State teachers certification she was offered multiple jobs at schools in both New York and New Jersey. "Xavier was honestly my dream job, it is an all-boys private Jesuit school whose mission focuses on molding young boys into men. I was offered the job one week before graduation as a Biology and Chemistry teacher as well as the head tennis coach position which has always been a passion of mine. I have taught both non-honors, honors chemistry and biology and will be starting my second coaching season of tennis this spring."
"The Seton Hall College of Education & Human Services provided me the opportunity to partake in many fieldwork experiences and internships, starting as early as freshman year. The [experiences and internships] were very beneficial to me and my classmates, as we were able to see in advance if teaching was the right profession for us — which it most definitely was! Seton Hall also helped better my faith and religion — coming from a Catholic college helped set a foundation for me as I entered into the Jesuit community at Xavier High School. I am always encouraging my junior and senior students to consider Seton Hall as an option and this year Xavier has had the most applicants ever to the University!"
Deanna is just another example of what great minds can do at Seton Hall. Keep up the great work Deanna. To read more about what great minds can do a Seton Hall, click here.
