Alumni Giving Grows by 40 Percent in Two Years  

Student on Campus holding Blue and White BasketballsWith the close of Fiscal Year 2019 on June 30, Seton Hall is proud to announce another robust year of philanthropic engagement, including gifts from more than 11 percent of undergraduate alumni.
  
This achievement is the culmination of a nearly 40 percent jump in undergraduate alumni giving since FY17. Overall, thousands of Setonians and friends gave millions to the University, including more than 5,700 undergraduate alumni.

"I am proud to stand with my fellow graduates and the entire Setonian family as we have just once again demonstrated what Pirates can achieve when we strive to enhance our student experience through our philanthropy," said Interim President Mary J. Meehan, Ph.D. "Together we are building on 163 years of setting and achieving goals. It is inspiring to see our community — both on- and off-campus — show their dedication to their Alma Mater."

Three giving campaigns showed remarkable donor growth over last year, including Rise to the Challenge, a popular June initiative that offers $2,500 to each school and college that elicits 11 percent giving from its undergraduate alumni base. Last year, it closed with 375 donors against a goal of 250. This year, the campaign elicited support from 414 donors who gave $21,000.

The second-annual Seton Hall Giving Day on April 10-11 resulted in 2,045 donors against a goal of 1,856, making it the greatest 36-hour fundraising effort in University history. The $337,097 raised during Giving Day was augmented by $75,000 in matching funds by an anonymous donor. These results far exceeded last year’s still-impressive totals of 1,150 donors and $155,762, which were raised in only 24 hours.

Peer-to-peer outreach played a significant role in the success of this year's Giving Day; the campaign benefitted from 57 donors who volunteered to promote the initiative organically through their personal social media channels.

"This truly demonstrates the cohesiveness of the Setonian community and the power of Pirates advocating the University to other Pirates," said Anthony Bellucci, Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement & Philanthropy. "We are also happy to have collaborated with our campus partners, including Pirate Blue and the Law School, to create impact and show what great minds can do." 

Another notable achievement is the Senior Class Gift, which engaged more than 800 members (more than 63 percent) of the Class of 2019 via electronic and in-person giving. It bears noting that only two years ago, senior class giving reached 12 percent.
  
“Clearly these young men and women are showing strong signs of loyalty as Pirates. But even more, they have learned the importance of paying it forward,” Bellucci said. “I am eager to see the heights that these young alumni and Pirates everywhere will take us in the coming years.”
