Alumni Volunteerism Surpasses Milestone of 1000 Registered Volunteers

Alumni volunteers assisting in gardening projects at Liberty State Park. Seton Hall Alumni Relations enthusiastically celebrates its more than 1,000 volunteers. Since 2013, Alumni Relations has seen an exponential increase in interest and also in completed projects. The number of registered volunteers has grown nearly 50% and the number of volunteer opportunities offered has increased 75% over the past five years.

Not only has the number of volunteers increased, but the diversity in the group of volunteers has increased as well; our volunteer community spans the classes of 1958-2016. As a result of this robust program and community, alumni near and far have opportunities to engage with their alma mater, and their communities, alongside fellow Pirates in ways that are meaningful to them. Additionally, the program provides virtual or at-home volunteer experiences to allow every alumnus an opportunity to get involved. “I’m thrilled to see such a strong interest and increase in alumni participation as they give back to the University. Working with these dedicated volunteers is a true testament to servant leadership and the passion this group of alumni has for Seton Hall,” said Erika Klinger, M.A. ’11, director of campus partnerships, Seton Hall Alumni Relations.

The volunteer program first began with alumni volunteers returning to campus to assist with recruitment efforts through the Office of Admissions as well as serving as mentors to current students. More recently, the program has expanded its efforts to encompass not just Pirates serving Pirates but Pirates serving their local communities nationwide.

The future of the Seton Hall volunteer program looks to create new initiatives based on alumni interests as well as build on the projects that alumni currently enjoy participating in. The success of the alumni volunteer program is a direct result of the volunteers, whose participation allows the program to grow and flourish.

Registering as an alumni volunteer allows alumni who are interested in serving the University and surrounding communities the opportunity to stay connected and updated on upcoming volunteer opportunities to participate in throughout the year.
