Music

The Minor in Music offers many options for Seton Hall students with a passion for music. Whether you are a performer, sound designer, or someone without prior music experience who is passionate about the place of music in our world, you can tailor the Music Minor curriculum to make a path of study suited to you. Students pursuing the Music Minor can select 1 of 2 areas of focus, Applied Music or Music Explorations.

Curriculum

Applied Music Concentration (15 credits)

Required Courses (6 credits)

  • MUTH 1099 Songwriting and Fundamentals of Music
  • MUTH 2500 Musicianship I (previously Theory I)
  • MUTH 2510 Musicianship II (previously Theory II)
  • MUTH 3111 Musicianship III (previously Theory III)
  • MUTH XXXX Music Form and Style*

Music Electives (9 credits)

Select nine (9) credits from available course inventory in Music (MUAP, MUHI, MUTH)

Music Exploration Concentration (15 credits)

Required Course (3 credits)

  • MUHI 1102 Music and Civilizations

Music Electives (12 credits)

Select 12 credits from the following:

  • MUHI 1108 American Music as an Agent of Change
  • MUTH 1099 Songwriting and Music Fundamentals
  • MUAP2149 Sound, Technology, and Culture
  • MUHI 1134 Music of Broadway
  • MUHI 2470 or COBF 2470 Music and Film
  • 3 credits of Ensemble (MUAP1151, 1161, 1211, or 1221)
