Biochemistry

Bringing together biology and chemistry, biochemistry explores the chemical processes that occur in living organisms. That means biochemists may make discoveries spanning genetics, medicine, microbiology, forensics or many other scientific disciplines - and they may work alongside engineers, physicists or even policy makers. Our program prepares students to study biochemistry in graduate school, to pursue medical school, or to work in the pharmaceutical or clinical industries. The program is lab-based, research-forward and customizable. With a small student-faculty ratio (less than 6:1), students get to know their professors while working with them in state-of-the-art labs.

How Seton Hall Lab Work Opens Doors

Early access to competitive Internships and state-of-the-art labs are hallmarks of the Seton Hall experience.

Curriculum

Biochemistry students fulfill the general chemistry major requirements and take advanced biology and biochemistry courses. The program starts with the fundamentals of general and organic chemistry. It also requires a year of physics and mathematics and includes rigorous advanced courses and electives. Lab experience is paramount throughout the program, and we strongly encourage undergraduate research. In fact, many students present their research results at local and national meetings. The Chemistry Honors Program - open by invitation only - offers further opportunities to work with faculty and culminates in a senior thesis and graduation with honors.
