Donald N. Lombardi Scholarship

Donald N. Lombardi, Ph.D., was a respected and beloved colleague and teacher who, except for his graduate education, resided on the South Orange campus for nearly fifty years. He graduated from Seton Hall University in 1954 and returned as a faculty member in 1962, after earning the doctorate in Social Psychology and Psychometrics from Fordham University. In 1970 he was promoted to the rank of full professor, and remained in this position until his death in May of 2001. In 1996, Dr. Lombardi was awarded the Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal in recognition of his institutional service.

Donald N. Lombardi, Ph.D. Dr. Lombardi was the embodiment of the scholar and practitioner. His private practice, as well as his consulting work at the Essex County Youth House, provided a wealth of relevant material for his teaching staples of Abnormal Psychology, Psychology of Adjustment and Adult-Child Relations. His extensive experience as a practitioner resulted in his being effective not only in lecture classes, but also in such hands-on courses as Practicum and Co-op Education. There was always a symbiotic relationship between Dr. Lombardi's clinical work, research interests, and teaching. An advocate of the Adlerian perspective, his book, The Search for Significance, was published in 1975. Many of his journal articles included undergraduate students as co-authors.
