Dr. Wells grew up in India and studied Psychology prior to moving to the US. Her early interest in psychology led to a Potential for Excellence in Psychiatric Nursing in 1992. However, her clinical path ultimately led to intensive care and subsequently to what became her on-going passion, post anesthesia nursing. She held certification in post anesthesia nursing for several years and in 2006 received the Nursing Excellence Award for Clinical Practice in Perioperative Services at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ. Her nursing practice has included a variety of roles, clinical and administrative in nature, and even a stint as a clinical consultant for a healthcare informatics firm.
Prior to accepting a full time position, Dr. Wells had been an adjunct for several years at Seton Hall University as well as at Kean University in Union, NJ. Her experiences at both institutions gave her a broad base in teaching a variety of students – traditional baccalaureate, R.N. to B.S.N., C.N.L. and graduate – using both face-to-face and online format. She enjoys teaching different levels of students and is passionate about incorporating technology into the classroom.
Most recently, Dr. Wells was a fortunate recipient of a Faculty Development Scholarship from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and New Jersey Nursing Initiative that allowed her to complete doctoral studies at the Seton Hall University College of Nursing. Her dissertation, which examined the lives of Indian nurses working in the US, was an extension of graduate work with foreign nurses and a deep interest in transcultural nursing. She has presented on various topics in transcultural nursing at local and national conferences. She is most excited to have been accepted to present a paper entitled “Working with nurses educated in India: Establishing transnational connections”at the upcoming 39th Annual Conference of the Transcultural Nursing Society in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Lambda Iota chapter), the American Association of Indian Nurses – NJ2 Chapter, The Transcultural Nursing Society and the National League of Nursing.
