Jamesetta Halley-Boyce, Ph.D., R.N., FACHE

Associate Professor - Graduate Dept.
College of Nursing

Dr. Halley-Boyce served as an Adjunct Professor in the College of Nursing from 1985 to 1992 for the Nursing Administration Master Degree Program. She returned to Seton Hall in 2005 as a fulltime, Associate Professor and the Director of the Health Systems Administration Program after concluding her direct, service delivery career. Dr. Halley-Boyce’ career in service included positions of increasingly more responsibility in the C-Suite including VP of Nursing, Associate Vice President, Hospital Director, COO and eventually, culminating with her appointment to the position of Interim Senior Vice President for Hospital Affairs and CEO for the 326 bed, tertiary care University Hospital of Brooklyn.

Dr. Halley-Boyce’s lifelong mission as a professional nurse has been to bridge the gap between Service and Academe and to enhance the image of the Nurse as an effective hospital operations executive as well as a clinical leader in the Healthcare Delivery System. Her goal has been to assure that patients receive the very best care; that Nursing students from the affiliated College of Nursing receive the very best clinical experience and that nurses for whom she served as the leader, are given the opportunity to learn, to teach and to grow academically. Dr. Boyce coined the phrase, "Caring for the Caregiver," while serving as the Chief, Nursing Service of Nursing Service at the East Orange, New Jersey, Veterans Administration Medical Center. For her outstanding contributions to the Nursing Profession in service, education and research as an active member of the New Jersey Organization of Nursing Executives, the New Jersey State Nurses Association and a co-sponsor with the College of Nursing and the Gamma Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau for the First Annual Reinkemeyer Research Conference,  Dr Boyce was awarded the Nursing Administrator of the Year by New Jersey State Nurses Association.

As the Director of the Health Systems Administration (HSA) Program, which awards a MSN, or in collaboration with the Stillman School of Business, a dual degree, MBA/MSN, Dr. Halley-Boyce has further enhanced and refined the HSA Program. Named in 2017 by the Healthcare Management Guide as one of the 20 best online programs in Nursing Administration and Leadership throughout the Nation, the HSA with Case Management Program is #16 in the Nation.

An expert in strategic planning and hospital operations, she has incorporated into the capstone course, Executive Internship, the requirement for each student to develop a SBPI, (Strategic Business Plan Initiative) in concert with the executive nurse preceptor. Teaching, mentoring and modeling success continues to be Dr. Halley-Boyce’s charge. Fully embracing succession planning, Dr. Halley-Boyce is most proud of the fact that many of her first generation graduates from the College of Nursing's Nursing Administration Program, are now accomplished executives themselves serving as Presidents of Hospitals and Hospital Systems, Vice Presidents of Nursing, Chief Operating Officers, etc. are the preceptors to her current generation of aspiring Nursing/ Healthcare executives.
