Monsignor Dennis Mahon's connection to Seton Hall dates back to when he earned his B.A. from the University in 1966. In the years that followed Mahon served in a number of administrative roles for Seton Hall, including the vice chancellor for planning and acting chancellor. Since 2001 he has worked as an associate professor for the College of Communication and the Arts, where he teaches Writing for the Organization and the Client, among other courses. He is also the coordinator for the College's Institute for Communication and Religion, which provides a nexus for scholarly exploration of communication topics critically important to religion and society.

Outside of the University, Mahon has worked as the executive director of Catholic Community Services as well as the Vice President for Development at the Catholic University of America.
