The SHU web environment is comprised of 5 areas; the official university site, the portal, department pages, personal web pages and academic web space. Each area is geared toward a specific purpose with regard to web development and the use of web technology at SHU.

Official University Web Pages

The official pages of the University reside on this site. This site is used to outline and deliver official information on services, policies, curriculum, etc. The pages are developed and maintained in Common Spot, the University's web content management system. These pages are maintained by a cross functional web team comprised of member of the Department of Information technology and Public Relations.

Department Pages
academic.shu.edu
Each department has separate web space to create and maintain department specific information. The individual department pages will not contain official university information such as the university course catalog which is housed on the official university site.  Read more »

This web space is the place where SHU community members can post personal websites. Anyone who wishes to build a personal website will need to authenticate to the pirate.shu.edu server using an account ID and password. Read more about personal web pages »

Course Development Web Space
courses.shu.edu
This web space is specifically for courses that teach or utilize web technologies in the curriculum. Each course needing web space for students as part of an assignment or project in the class will be provided space for the semester along with the necessary access to facilitate the learning objective or the creation of the project assigned to the students.  Upon completion of the course and after grades are due, the work will be archived to a DVD and provided to the faculty member as a record of the work done in the class. Courses.shu.edu is accessible to the public but is not searchable from major search engines. The communication protocol supported for web page creation is FTP only.  Read more »
