Getting Started for Faculty

The following tutorials will help you get started with creating your course in Blackboard.  

  • Using the Control Panel
    The new control panel in Blackboard 9 enables you to easily navigate and is accessible  from anywhere in your course.

  • Customizing Your Blackboard Course
    Learn how to turn edit mode on/off, how to create content areas (subheaders, dividers, etc.), including customization such as style, course point of entry, etc. It also illustrates how to manipulate the course menu, including moving/renaming content areas and creating items within content area. It also highlights the newly created course home page and the control panel.

Assessment for Faculty

A Bb course enables you to create and disperse assignments and has a grade center for recording and distributing students' grades.

  • Creating an Assignment
    Create folders, items, assignments, tests, surverys, etc. using the different functions of Create, Build, Evaluate, and Collaborate. It also illustrates how an assignment area is linked to the grade center.

  • The Grade Center
    Use the functionality of the Grade Center to perform simple tasks such as collecting and grading assignments, and giving feedback to users.

  • SafeAssign

    SafeAssign allows you to protect the originality of work and ensure a fair playing ground for all of your students.

  • Self and Peer Assessment
    Self and Peer Assessment allows an instructor to create an exercise, composed of one or more questions, each with one or more criteria, to be presented to their students for completion and evaluation.

Take advantage of these course tools to enhance your course content and to expand your course discussion beyond the physical classroom.

  • Announcements in Blackboard 9
    Create announcements (permanent and date restricted), send an e-mail to all users about the announcement, create course link within announcement.

    Send an e-mail to some or all of users within a course.

  • Creating a Discussion Board
    Create discussion boards such as forums and threads for all students or selected groups of students. It also illustrates how to grade discussion board posts.

  • Creating Group Pages
    Learn to create group pages from the content menu. It also illustrates how to create groups for students that you can either manually enroll them in or have them self-enroll themselves.

  • Archive a Course
    Archive creates a permanent record of a course including all the content and user interactions available at the time the archive is initiated.

  • Copy a Course
    Course Copy adds content from one course to another, and is useful when teaching the same course across various semesters.

  • Import a Course
    An Import package is a .ZIP file of exported course content. Importing a package into an existing course copies the contents of the package in the course. Import packages do not include user enrollments or records, such as discussion board posts and assessment attempts.

  • Export a Course
    Export creates a package of the course content that can later be imported into the same course or into a different course. Unlike Archive, Export does not include any user interactions. It only includes Content, Settings, and Tools.

  • Create a Blog
    A Blog is a collaborative tool that allows students to post their personal reflection about the course or discuss and analyze course related material.

  • Create a Wiki
    A Wiki is a collaboratively authored by a group users. An instructor can allow the entire class or groups to add text, graphics, files and links to build the content of the site.
