Student Participation in the Mobile Computing Program
PC Support Services

All full-time undergraduate students as well as graduate students in specific graduate programs are required to participate in the Mobile Computing programs.  Seton Hall has adopted a ubiquitous mobile computing initiative that infuses the use of technology not only in academics, but in all aspects of campus life.  In support of this initiative, the University issues a laptop or tablet computer to all full-time undergraduate students.

Laptop Distribution:
Every full-time, undergraduate student receives a laptop during New Student Orientation.  For students who do not attend the orientation or were not eligible to pick up the laptop during orientation, make-up laptop distribution sessions (link to laptop distribution make-up sessions) are scheduled at the start of each semester, Spring and Fall.

Laptop specifics for your class for the 2008-2009 Academic Year:
The laptop that you will receive during distribution is based on your current academic standing.  To view which model laptop that you will receive as well as information that is specific to your class, click on the appropriate link below.  (link each class to the appropriate CS page.)

Student Laptop Pilot Projects

Seton Hall is always assessing the success of the Mobile Computing Programs and looking at ways to enhance the learning experience.  As part of this process, we are in the process of exploring the use of both the tablet computer and the MAC powerbook in certain disciplines on campus.

  1. Tablet PC Pilot Project – This pilot is exploring the use of the tablet pc in the physical, biological, chemistry, computer sciences and mathematical sciences.  Students with a major in one of these disciplines will receive a tablet PC at distribution instead of the standard laptop computer.
  2. MAC Pilot Project - Students in Graphic Design with an Advertising Art major /minor or Communications with a concentration in Graphics receive an Apple MacBook computer for the junior refresh.

Laptop Check-in
Every student must check in his/her laptop each semester. Check-in is timed to occur before Pre-registration in the Fall and again in the Spring. Students are notified about the dates through their Seton Hall e-mail accounts. Check-in is completed online and takes about 2 minutes.

Laptop Refresh
In order to keep the technology current and to provide SHU students with the latest and greatest technology on the market, Seton Hall has opted to use a Mobile Computing model that incorporates a laptop refresh at the end of a student's sophomore year.
